boxingshoeOy! Summer is coming (I know, shows how brilliant I truly am doesn’t it??). Some of you gals want to look cute in some very slinky sneakers when out on the water. Some of you guys want to show off your sock-less manlies in a hot pair of Bo-J’s. Whatever the motivation, there’s about 90 days to get there.

Maybe you thought to hire a Jillian or a Bob or a Dolvett (I want his sneakers…); then have the awesome honor to hoark out $300.00 to walk in the door at an L.A. Fitness Signature gym (an’ freak out just a little cuz  you saw someone in the locker room without socks OR sneakers on); shell out a few hundred more dollars at Protein Palace on powders, blender bottles, and weaponized food bars. You might have picked up ten electronic & print versions of “OMG I’m Gonna do WHAT? for Dummies”. By the end of the week you’ll own stock in MyFitnessPal and LiveStrong; have a treadmill and an elliptical in the living room (we all know those are fancy clothes hangers). After all your weights arrive from the kettlebell store off eBay you swear you’re ready to go.

Several moments after you jump onto the treadmill with 15lb weights in each hand, you confidently press the Sprint level…and off you go (literally…after your feet flew from under you and the the machine spat you through the drywall). You begin to think maybe the second kettlebell was a bit much.

While you’re counting down the days to summer, consider these few tips to help you on your way:

Stay focused. It is easy to get distracted. It’ll be a quiet day, everyone doing their thing and the second you start working out with Bob Harper on the Wii: chaos! You might as well have picked up the phone (because nobody in the entire house has any need of you until you pick up the phone).

Stay positive. You’ll never hit your weight loss goal with a negative attitude. Create a playlist with all your favorite upbeat songs, read a motivational book, get a workout buddy (YOU can. My friends won’t work out with me. They’ve seen me post about my workouts).

Don’t go crazy. You’ve got a lot of time to do a lot of things to extend your life. Do stuff that’ll keep you away from the scale (six times a day). There’s a lot you can do in 90 days:

  • Try 90 different protein shake recipes. Tasty and good for you!
  • Gyms want you. They want your business. They give one to two week free trials to newbies. You may have to drive around a bit, but free is free-right? Give that a shot for 90 days, it’ll be fun!
  • Ride a bike instead of driving.
  • Learn a new language.

Have fun!
